Re: Integrating GEDI Data with Elevation and Vegetation Type at 30 m Resolution

There is some work done on generating a Global Forest Canopy Height, which is an extrapolation of GEDI with Landsat, led by the GLAD team at UMD. There are limitations, with saturation above 30m height. It was the first demo of combining GEDI with Landsat. (Hansen et al; combining optical with versi...

Re: GEDI Data Reliability for Canopy Cover in Mountain Forests

Use the quality flags to assure that you are only using high-quality returns over high-relief or mountainous regions. Be mindful as the uncertainty will increase over high slopes.

Question: GEDI vs. ICESat-2

Re: GEDI vs. ICESat-2

GEDI is designed to measure tree height. ICESat-2 and GEDI measure in different ways with GEDI being full waveform. GEDI was specifically designed for veg height, so the footprint size is designed as such. Canopy has a better reflectance at 1064 nm (GEDI) than 532 nm(ICESat-2). GEDI was specificall...

Question: Using GEDI in Grasslands and Croplands
Replies: 1

Re: Using GEDI in Grasslands and Croplands

GEDI is not designed for measurement of non-woody or near ground vegetation, where it may be difficult to separate the canopy and ground signals. In addition to canopy height of woody vegetation, GEDI provides estimates of canopy cover, Plant Area Index and their vertical profiles, and aboveground b...

Question: GEDI Height Detection over Rangelands/Grasslands
Replies: 1

Re: GEDI Height Detection over Rangelands/Grasslands

GEDI is not designed for measurement of non-woody or near ground vegetation, and it can be difficult to separate canopy and ground in non-woody environments.
