Re: Problems related to cloud properties of CERES clouds in spherical radiation budget systems

The cloud effective height and pressure are values that is obtained strictly from the infrared radiance obtained by the imager. A certain amount of water droplets are needed before the infrared signal becomes strong enough to be detected by a passive instrument such as MODIS or VIIRS. This can be lo...

Re: How to obtain ice cloud fraction?

The second statement is correct, "A phase of 1 indicates all cloud pixels are liquid while a phase of 2 means ice. A phase of 1.5 is a cloud region where half of the MODIS pixels are ice and the other half are liquid." The cloud phase is calculated as below in CERES processing: Cloud Parti...

The Terra and Aqua SRFs remained the same starting with May 2020.

I have attached the Aqua SW SRFs for 2018, 2019, and 2020.

Re: SYN1deg cloud locations/timing

SW flux narrowband to broadband conversions are used in the SYN1deg. There is also a solar zenith cutoff of 60 degrees for the SW flux narrowband to broadband conversions being performed, but this does not impact the cloud properties. Where sun glint is identified in the GEO observations, the clouds...

Re: SYN1deg cloud locations/timing

For GOES, the 0.5 GMT image (30 minutes after) for each GMT hour increment is used (for example 0 to 1 GMT, 1-2 GMT, etc). The four 15 minute images for an hour are not averaged. A 6-km subset of the GOES-16 native resolution imagery is used. If a MODIS swath occurs for that GMT hour, then the MODIS...

Re: CERES、shortwave flux

Hi!, I am not familiar with the ISCCP-FH-MPF product, but pulled down the file for January 2017 and viewed it in Panoply and compared it with our EBAF product for the same date. I compared the sxd1fl, surface downward shortwave flux all sky in ISCCP-FH-MPF, with the EBAF Surface Shortwave Flux Down ...
