CALIPSO isolated 80 km layer filter
Hi there, I have some questions about applying the Isolated 80 km layer filter to the L2 data. My understanding from Tackett et al., 2018 https://amt.copernicus.org/articles/11/4129/2018/amt-11-4129-2018.pdf is that the L3 data product is derived from the L2 profile product, which in turn is derived...

CALIPSO UTC and Profile time in L2 data
Hello there, I'm trying to collocate CALIPSO retrievals with those from another instrument. I've downloaded the L2 dataset that I need (CAL_LID_L2_05kmAPro-Standard-V4-20), but when I look at the two time variables available ("Profile_UTC_Time" and "Profile_Time") these are in fo...

Re: Zenith Angle and MODIS AODs
I think I have an answer to my own question. It seems that the optical depth is determined by the projecting of the observed extinction onto the vertical. That is, measured_extinction*cos(zenith_angle) would be what MODIS retrievals are showing. Is this correct?

Sarah

Zenith Angle and MODIS AODs
Hi there, I'm comparing the seasonality of different satellite and ground-based AOD products in the high-ish (60N and above) latitudes, and find substantial differences between data products generated from LiDAR versus passive sensors. I'm wondering whether the AODs calculated from MODIS (Deep Blue ...

Re: CALIOP polluted continental/elevated smoke and height
Hi there,
I answered my own question by realizing that it is only the top of the layer has to be above the 2.5 km threshold for the SCA to classify the entire layer as elevated smoke, which is why there is elevated smoke below 2.5 km. Thank you for your help!
Best,
Sarah

CALIOP polluted continental/elevated smoke and height
Hello again, I have a question regarding some of my observations using the L3 CALIOP tropospheric profile all-sky dataset, V4.20/21. In reading about the V4 scene classification algorithm (https://amt.copernicus.org/articles/11/6107/2018/amt-11-6107-2018.pdf) it seems like it should be impossible fo...

L3 CALIPSO AOD Mean Values vs AOD by aerosol type
Hi there, On the level 3 tropospheric aerosol profile data users page (https://www-calipso.larc.nasa.gov/resources/calipso_users_guide/data_summaries/l3/cal_lid_l3_tropospheric_apro_v4-20_desc.php) it indicates that the data product contains the variable AOD_Mean [Dust, Elevated Smoke, Polluted Dust...

Re: Where to get CALIPSO L3 Aerosol Products after 7/2020
Hi Cheyenne,
Thanks so much for the quick response! Since V4-21 is not yet available, any chance you know whether I can access V4-20 for the last half of 2020?
Many thanks,
Sarah
