Hi asniyori,
Are you using in-situ data from the NSIDC? If so, please let me know which data set and I can provide guidance on the conversion. You can explore the SMAP validation data sets here: https://nsidc.org/data/smap/validation-data

Re: SMAP Level-4 soil moisture data
Dear asniyori, Thank you for contacting the NSIDC DAAC. The units vary for each parameter in SMAP L4 data products. More information on the units for each parameter is available here: https://nsidc.org/sites/default/files/documents/technical-reference/reichle1438.pdf What is the in-situ parameter yo...

Re: Soil temperature 10 ft deep
Dear oliwiapodolak, Thank you for contacting the NSIDC DAAC. I recommend the IPA-IPY Thermal State of Permafrost (TSP) Snapshot Borehole Inventory, Version 1 data set (https://nsidc.org/data/g02190/versions/1). This data set is part of the NOAA@NSIDC data archive. If you have any questions about thi...

Re: NSIDC-0079 (Sea Ice) download: having to restart download frequently
This is a known issue with the Python script generated by the Data Access Tool. Our team is working on a solution, but in the meantime, I would recommend another data access method (like NASA Earthdata Search https://search.earthdata.nasa.gov/search?q=NSIDC-0079%20V004) I apologize for the inconveni...

Re: Best data to measure soil moisture and evaporation
Dear Binita, Thank you for contacting the NSIDC DAAC. I would recommend the Soil Moisture Active Passive Data (SMAP) data products for soil moisture data. You can explore the various SMAP data products here: [https://nsidc.org/data/smap]. We do not currently archive any evaporation data products at ...

Kind regards,

Re: How to place hdf raster in correct location
Hi etis, It looks like the reason that the .h5 is failing to read in the correct location is that the CRS information is not included in the metadata in a way that QGIS can read it/interpret it. From what I have read, reprojecting an .h5 file in QGIS is tricky. I would recommend using Earthdata sear...

Re: SMAP Level-4 soil moisture data
There are a few reasons that the soil moisture data values in SMAP Level-4 data products may vary from what you expect in a particular region. The first step a data user should take in investigating apparently anomalous values is to look at the rich quality information and other data flags contained...

Re: How to place hdf raster in correct location
Hi etis, What method did you use for importing the data into QGIS? Also, could you include a screenshot to demonstrate the location issue? I suspect that the reason for this issue is because the data are in a 1D array and not a 2D array. It might be worth re-downloading the data reformatted as GeoTI...
