Re: Atmospheric enthalpy flux

Thank you for the reply. Given this information, what is the most appropriate way to calculate vertically integrated moist static energy (MSE) from MERRA-2 outputs, as there is no dry enthalpy variable? Is it appropriate to use CpTv instead, given that the correction for virtual temperature is relat...

Atmospheric enthalpy flux

In MERRA-2, the vertically integrated diagnostics dataset (M2T1NXINT) has variables "eastward and northward flux of atmospheric enthalpy", or CPT U and CPT V.

How are these values calculated? Are they dry enthalpy or the 'virtual' enthalpy CpTv discussed in the documentation? Thank you.

MERRA-2 skin temperature, effective skin temperature

Hi there, I am wondering what the difference between the variables Skin temperature (TS) and Effective skin temperature (TSH) are. Is skin temperature (over ocean) the appropriate variable to use for SST? Is this the temperature of the actual surface? Also, what is the definition of Ground heating f...

Surface specific heat capacity in MERRA-2

Hi there. I am hoping to better understand what the inputs to MERRA-2 are for the calculation of specific heat capacity at the surface - both static choices and dynamic variables that change over time. I would like to find or construct an average specific heat capacity field to perform some flux cal...
