Question: VIIRS L2 STRAYLIGHT flag
Replies: 6

Re: VIIRS L2 STRAYLIGHT flag

Correct, though coasts can be bright enough to trigger the HILT flag. There is no specific adjacency effect flagging or correction applied. Although "stray light" in this context does refer light from outside the direct viewing path, and so should capture any impact from adjacent bright so...

Question: VIIRS L2 STRAYLIGHT flag

Re: VIIRS L2 STRAYLIGHT flag

Just HILT (high top-of-atmosphere radiance, Lt) and CLDICE (clouds...and ice, because the simple radiometric test for clouds cannot distinguish it from bright ice). SEAICE is based on an ice fraction ancillary dataset (which is rather coarse resolution) and is not used in the straylight masking. HIG...

Question: VIIRS L2 STRAYLIGHT flag

Re: VIIRS L2 STRAYLIGHT flag

For most sensors, the straylight flag is a simple dilation of the cloud and high Lt flags. For VIIRS, a 3x3 kernel is used following the recommendation of Hu et al. (2019) Hu, C., Feng, L., Lee, Z., Franz, B. A., Bailey, S. W., Werdell, P. J., & Proctor, C. W. (2019). Improving satellite global ...

Question: Method for compositing data available in Level 3 & 4 Browser

Re: Method for compositing data available in Level 3 & 4 Browser

The monthly files are indeed composites of the data collected for the month. Details of the bin file format and how the compositing is done can be found in the SeaWiFS pre-launch TM series Volume 32 . Some of elements described in that TM are no longer done (e.g. the maximum likelihood estimator app...

Question: How does SeaDAS 'L2gen' regrid ancillary data to match the resolution of PACE-OCI?

Re: How does SeaDAS 'L2gen' regrid ancillary data to match the resolution of PACE-OCI?

l2gen uses a bilinear interpolation method to spatially interpolate the ancillary data to the satellite pixel location. It then uses a linear interpolation in time (for ancillary data that are provided with bounding files).

Question: l2gen on lakes / pressure

Re: l2gen on lakes / pressure

Frederic,
Yes, by default l2gen corrects for atmospheric pressure, even over high altitude lakes (if proc_land is on, which it is by default). And yes, processing for OLCI uses the input MERRA2 ancillary data, not the ancillary included with the OLCI L1B files.

Question: ERROR IN DOWNLAOD

Re: ERROR IN DOWNLAOD

If you can provide information on how you are attempting to download the data, it would help. Is it a CMR API query? An OB.DAAC file_search query? OB.DAAC L3 browser web interface?

Question: l2gen processing for Sentinel 2 L1C data in 2024V

Re: l2gen processing for Sentinel 2 L1C data in 2024V

No, support for Sentinel 2 MSI in l2gen is on an as-available basis and we have not had enough spare cycles to be able to put effort into resolving the issues.

Sorry,

Question: Error when download PACE-OCI AOD product

Re: Error when download PACE-OCI AOD product

The Dartktarget and Deepblue products from the PACE OCI instrument were test products and not intended for general distribution. They have been removed from visibility to avoid confusion and potential misuse. The PACE Project Science folks are currently evaluating a unified algorithm product for dis...
