Question: MODIS Aqua R2022 granule start time vs R2018

Re: MODIS Aqua R2022 granule start time vs R2018

Julian, Yes, this is normal (and has been the case for SST L2s since 2019). We decided to stop lying to you :D The start time in the L2 files is derived from the first valid scan line in the scene. Quite often that is indeed on the 5 minute boundary of the arbitrary chunking that is done to the MODI...

Question: AQUA MODIS Cloud Mask Useless

Re: AQUA MODIS Cloud Mask Useless

No, the cloud mask is not in error. SST uses infrared wavelengths, while ocean color uses visible/NIR wavelengths. The two do not "see" the same thing with respect to what constitutes a cloud. SST will often be able to "see" through clouds that ocean color cannot. While the cloud...

Re: Corrupt file order

Matthew, I found two recent orders for Terra L3 8-day data associated with your username. The first created on Aug 5th had 98 extracted files (49 binned and 49 mapped chlor_a files). The second created today had 52 extracted files (26 binned and mapped). I was able to retrieve the tar bundles for ea...

Re: L2bin Prodtype 8-day

We'll need more information to help diagnose the issue. Please provide the command-line arguments (and/or the parameter file used) as well as a description of how the input L2 files were obtained (or generated).

Re: MODIS Aqua new file naming and QLP QL RF

Next up on the reprocessing list is Terra-MODIS, to be followed by SNPP-VIIRS and then NOAA20-VIIRS.
Hopefully, Terra-MODIS will be done by the end of August, early Sept for SNPP-VIIRS and late Sept for NOAA20-VIIRS...just don't hold me to those dates ;)

Re: MODIS Aqua new file naming and QLP QL RF

Julian, I was reminded by the production staff that with the filenames now having NRT in them, the confusion around quicklook and refined was eliminated, so the version element in the metadata would no longer need the QL[P] modifier. Seems that clarification caused confusion :( Prior to having a ver...

Re: Seadas GEO.hdf

Do not have directories with spaces in the name. Rename "Modis Data" to not include a space and it should work.

Re: MODIS Aqua new file naming and QLP QL RF

Julian, As you noted, with the R2022 reprocessing we are including ".NRT" in the filename for, well, near real-time data. This is the equivalent of the previous QL (and QLP) designation. There will only be one "quicklook" (NRT) product produced prior to the final (is it ever fina...

Re: [SeaBASS - MODISA] SST retrieval at night

The CLDICE flag is an ocean color flag, not a SST flag. Cloud masking is entirely different for SST (and differs a bit between day and night). For SST, unless you have a reason to do otherwise, you should use the quality flags (qual_sst) for selecting good quality SST retrievals. There is an flags_s...

Re: SeaDAS versioning affecting Landsat chl processing

Luke, Vicarious gains are always applied, although sometimes they are just a bunch of 1s ;) The values are in the $OCDATAROOT/<sensor>[/platform]/msl12_defaults.par file The issue you noticed was not a misapplication of the gains (well, not directly), but rather a change in the default gaseous absor...
