Re: Terra direct broadcast data outage?

The following message was sent to the Direct Broadcast community today (18 March 2024): Terra continues to collect science; however, no Direct Broadcast is available. Terra is encountering an intermittent solar array power generation issue limiting our ability to continue all science and provide Dir...

Re: JPSS2 / NOAA21

No. In fact, with much sadness I must report that the venerable old browser is soon to be decommissioned. However, the data are available for search and download via the Earthdata Search tool: https://search.earthdata.nasa.gov/search/granules We also have an OB.DAAC portal, which limits the search t...

Question: Mid-way failure in data extraction procedure.

Re: Mid-way failure in data extraction procedure.

The order seems to be expired (which means the data were deleted from our distribution servers). It was only for extracts of daily data from Jan 2003, not the full 20+ years of Aqua data. Please try placing the order again, and respond to the request for confirmation in a more timely manner. (the ex...

Re: failed in getanc for modis data

I was too quick with that 'fix'. It fixed getanc, but breaks modis_GEO and modis_L1B :o
My "fix" has been fixed ;) The correct fix will be in the next OCSSW tag.

Re: failed in getanc for modis data

Seems there is a bug with the use of the -c,--curdir option. One I apparently introduced almost 3 years ago  I'm very surprised this is the first report. The good news is the solution is simple. The first option is a workaround. Don't use -c. Just let the code put the files in the default loc...

Re: Inability to Download OB.DAAC Data with obdaac_download.py

Eric, I verified the script on Windows10. I was able to retrieve the file you report as an example (obviously I used my own appkey). The error you're seeing suggests a problem with the connection - the script is trying to connect, but cannot. Odd that you can get the file from the browser, but not t...

Re: Has data changed recently?

The PAR algorithm is only valid over ice-free waters. The R2022 reprocessing saw a number of changes to the ancillary inputs we use, one of these was the sea ice fraction. While the R2018 may have had some retrievals in your region of interest, they were likely not accurate. In the Hudson Bay, sea i...

Question: how to run l2gen for PRISM?

Re: how to run l2gen for PRISM?

The answer is simple....l2gen supports (in the loosest sense) PRISM in ENVI format, not the special netCDF4 format created for the CORAL program. Though this did highlight the fact that the metadata in the L1B files is amiss...we'll look at correcting that :D For context, support for the ENVI format...

Re: How are gains mentioned in SeaHawk L2 metadata calculated?

Yes, the Franz et al., 2007 approach was used, but with limited coverage over MOBY, the ocean reflectance model of Werdell et al., 2007 was necessary. Several clear ocean scenes were used.

Question: Scaling and Offset: S3A/B, VIIRS

Re: Scaling and Offset: S3A/B, VIIRS

The answer depends upon the netCDF reader client (for example, SeaDAS does, as does the python netCDF4 API). Most should apply them, so you wouldn't need to do so manually. If you're finding the values don't seem geophysically reasonable, it is likely the scale_factor and add_offset were not applied...
