For a quick peek into metadata of files before downloading you can view data from Earthdata Search. Once you have downloaded data onto your machine you can to open it with data analysis software, such as SeaDAS to view the metadata.

Yes, since Sean's message confirms that the recovery effort has been completed, your interpretation is correct. OBDAAC does not have a special location where recovered data is placed. It is routed to it's nominal location. Any gaps that remain in the data could not be recovered.
