Regarding the resolution of MODIS SST after reprojcetion

Hi Swathy,Note that MODIS pixel sizes are  1 kilometer at nadir only and increasein size away from the center of each scan.  This is the reason that ourofficial level-3 bin sizes for MODIS are 4.64 kilometers (i.e. 21.5 squarekilometers).  See https://oceancolor.gsfc.nasa.gov/docs/for...

analyse mean chlorophyll

There are many ways to handle the output of l3bindump.Here is one that I would use involving Perl to parse the l3bindump output.# To get the mean value of chlorophyll concentration for an arbitrary region.l3bindump ifile=A20173052017334.L3b_MO_CHL.nc l3bprod=chlor_a \        ...

Comparison of MODIS/VIIRS R2018 OCX

Hi Philippe,I leave it to others in our group to speculate on causes, but I can confirm thebias you are seeing.  The following are plots of the median global chlor_a valuestaken from the daily level-3 bin files in our archive.Aqua/MODIS:https://oceancolor.gsfc.nasa.gov/cgi/l3bts?mssn=MODISA&...

Your question is not very specific, so it's hard to give a specific answer.Assuming that you have ASCII data records containing latitude, longitude, and geophysical value (output from l3bindump, for example), then you couldfollow this basic outline.(1) Use your favorite map projection (e.g. Merca...

Hi,

If I were you, I would choose your second method but leave out
the L3mapgen and reprojecting steps.  The L3bindump program
reads level-3 bin files directly, so you do not need to make mapped
versions of the data.

Ideal range of Chlorophyll-a of ocean

Wow.  That is such an broad, open-ended question.  Chlorophyll concentrationsin the global ocean vary cross four orders of magnitude from lows near 0.01milligrams per cubic meter in central ocean gyres to as high as 100 mg/m^3in some highly eutrophic water bodies, and the causes of these v...
