Depending on how you set up your subscriptions when you are creating them, under the sensor tab, you can choose how you want to receive your images.

It works if you leave off the characters after the wildcard in your search string for MERIS.

Yes, since Sean's message confirms that the recovery effort has been completed, your interpretation is correct. OBDAAC does not have a special location where recovered data is placed. It is routed to it's nominal location. Any gaps that remain in the data could not be recovered.
