Re: Bulk downloading files using python

The post you are using is not for oceancolor. You should follow the instructions for Ocean Color Data ( https://oceancolor.gsfc.nasa.gov/data/download_methods/ ). The python script you can download from that page does work with Cygwin (using the Cygwin terminal with bash or zsh), native windows, or ...

Re: Bulk downloading files using python

See: https://oceancolor.gsfc.nasa.gov/data/download_methods/ for a python script. There are also ways to get lists of files to download, file checksums, etc.

Re: MODIS Aqua Chl-a Product

Not sure what you mean by 'each MOD05_L2 product file covers a five-minute time interval (based on the start time of each MODIS Level-1B granule)' means the MOD05_L2 product has 5 minute time interval of chl-a product on global scale? The MODIS sensor scans across the track, so each 5-minute granual...

Re: MODIS Aqua Chl-a Product

Daily products just combine the available granuals, so can't capture the details when there are rapid changes in chlorophyll level. Other products (PAR) that have daily cycles, aren't usable on time scales less than 30 days, but daily products are still generated and then used to produce monthly pro...

Re: PAR L3 product - Unexpected patterns

https://oceancolor.gsfc.nasa.gov/docs/ancillary/ describes the current sea-ice data set under "Ancillary Data/Surface Properties". I'm not sure what was used for the existing MODIS Aqua processing. The patterns you see are probably due to low resolution of the ice data. When doing an annu...

Re: MODIS Aqua Chl-a Product

Firstly, the orbital period is 99 minutes means it takes 99 minutes for the Aqua satellite to move from the south pole to the north pole. Am I correct? The orbital period is time for a complete orbit, so south pole to north pole and back around to south pole. Secondly, you mentioned over 24 hours w...

Re: Old leapsec.dat file on Ancillary site

unless there's a leap second to add
or, thanks to global warming, subtract! Adding a second is simpler than subtracting, as you don't get the same time twice when adding, so it will not be surprising to see some problems with subtracting a leap second.

Re: How do I know which OCSSW branches and tags are available?

See https://seadas.gsfc.nasa.gov/downloads/ : Run the installer: The following will get a list of the available TAGS. Tags starting with "V" are operational versions, "T" are test versions. $ ./install_ocssw --list_tags Note that the Ocean Color Web Site still has links for the o...

Re: MODIS Aqua Chl-a Product

The MODIS instrument is constantly scanning. Aqua's orbit goes over the poles and takes about 99 minutes: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aqua_(satellite) , so over 24 hours you get 14.5 orbits. Generally you can download 5 minutes of data as a "granual", see: https://modis-images.gsfc.nasa....

Re: (Log file directory is not accessible to write) Install Seadas 8.1.0, WSL, Windows 10, OCSSW

I don't see anything in your post that explains: # WARNING!!! Mission directory 'C:\home\negri\ocssw\share\olci' does not exist Normally, OLCI sensor-specific files are found in $OCDATAROOT/olci . The value of OCDATAROOT should be set in OCSSW_bash.env . Since the benchmark script works, MODIS Aqua ...
