Just a comment on l3mapgen - while it has a set of default projections it supports, it also accepts user defined projections...if it's available in Proj, it's (very likely) available in l3mapgen

The l2gen scan line attributes variable csolz is not the same as the l1rec->csol_z variable. The former is the solar zenith angle for the center of the scan line, the later (required by the algorithm) is the cosine of the solar zenith angle at each pixel. 0700 UTC for the Chesapeake Bay is at night....so the granule doesn't have valid reflective solar band data and the HKM and QKM files (which only have reflective solar bands) are not output.
