Peter,
The page didn't move far: https://oceancolor.gsfc.nasa.gov/resources/docs/distfromcoast/
It was never really easy to find, but I agree it is now less so. We'll see what we can do to bubble it up a bit.

Re: How to calculate csol_z?
The l2gen scan line attributes variable csolz is not the same as the l1rec->csol_z variable. The former is the solar zenith angle for the center of the scan line, the later (required by the algorithm) is the cosine of the solar zenith angle at each pixel. It is not a product that l2gen can output, a...

Re: modis_L1B stopped outputting HKM and QKM files
0700 UTC for the Chesapeake Bay is at night....so the granule doesn't have valid reflective solar band data and the HKM and QKM files (which only have reflective solar bands) are not output.

Re: Kd490 data VIIRS vs MODIS
Tom,
I used the tools we make available with the SeaDAS package to generate those images of the L3 mapped Kd490 data, specifically the l3mapgen program.
Regards,
Sean

Re: Kd490 data VIIRS vs MODIS
Tom, The site you reference is a NOAA site, not NASA. The site does indicate that the MODIS data they present comes from NASA, however the VIIRS data is from NOAA. That said, I looked at the corresponding NASA product, and overall, the Aqua MODIS and SNPP VIIRS Kd490 products agree quite well. Certa...

Yes, indeed that file has double vision. ...not sure how it managed to repeat itself, but we'll dig into it and see if we can resolve the issue.

Re: Ocean Color Browser not showing Sentinel images
Yes, the EFR data are available (as of this writing, through 16 July 2023).
Select the EFR checkbox for the desired sensor, select the TC option and click the 'Reconfigure page' button and you should see the available data.

You can also select the TC (true color) images, and the current browser will display the available OLCI data.

Re: Missing Data SST 8-DAY
Based on the information you provided, I believe you are looking at the bin file (L3b). The bin file is not a raster image format (as the mapped - L3m - product is), rather is is more akin to a spreadsheet. It only contains values where there are data. The bin file format is described here: https://...

Re: Seadas software
Yves, While it is true that we produce and distribute remote sensing reflectance data for MODIS that include the higher spatial resolution bands (469nm, 555, and 645nm), none of the ocean color products we produce use bands other than the nominal 1km spatial resolution ("ocean") bands. For...
