Re: OCSSW Installation Error

[...]I used the following ./install_ocssw --install_dir=/att/nobackup/avmehta/seadas8 --tag V2020.2 --oli --msis2a --msis2b --olcis3a --olcis3b --aqua --terra --viirsn --viirsj1 "install_ocssw --help" will show you that there is a "--list_tags" option. You should probably use a ...

Re: MODIS Geolocation

Has anything changed for 2020-2021? There is newer OCSSW processing software which provides "$OCSSWROOT/bin/modis_GEO" to replace "$OCSSWROOT/scripts/modis_GEO.py". You haven't provide enough detail to allow someone who has the newer version to try to reproduce your problem, but...

Question: PAR

Re: PAR

Is the missing data found in high latitude winter? Which sensor are you using? In my area (Northwest Atlantic) PAR is missing in areas of seasonal ice. The algorithm can't differentiate between bright pixels caused by cloud and bright pixels caused by surface conditions, so it relies on ancillary da...

If you are using mapped data, GIS packages such as QGIS may be better suited to your task. There are many more GIS users than ocean color users, so fewer undiscovered bugs and more avenues to get help if you have a problem.

Re: Seadas 8 not responding after install

Which version of the OCSSW command-line tools are you using? If you have the new version, are you able to run the benchmark? I have an older system running linux that did random freezes. Google found that other users with similar hardware were also having problems, and a bug report that identified a...

Re: Question about OCSSW_bash.env

It looks like you are using macOS (what version?) and SeaDAS 7 but something has changed. The "= not found" error occurs when a bash-specific script is run with zsh (current default macOS shell, which gives a "%" command prompt). See: "https://www.zsh.org/mla/users/2011/msg0...

Re: MODIS Aqua SST and Chl-a Product

The underlying SST quality variables are defined in the level-2 data ( https://oceancolor.gsfc.nasa.gov/atbd/sst/ ). NASA uses binning and mapping to produce the monthly mapped products used by Giovanni. Because this process averages multiple pixels, it is necessary to exclude "low quality"...

Hi Team, Getting the error ‘/usr/bin/python: No module named pip’ while installing Seadas Processing Software Installer. mentions using an AppKey and also Python downloaders. For me, the python scripts have been more reliable than wget.

Question: How good are SST4/SST11 algorithms ?

Re: How good are SST4/SST11 algorithms ?

"Good" is rather vague. There are many tradeoffs in developing SST (and other) remote-sensing algorithms. Depending on your use case, your definition of "good" may differ from mine. I have used SST, chlor_a, and other variables to pair in situ observations with remote-sensing obs...
