Re: Satellite and airborne atmosphere and aerosol data
Mengmeng, For aerosol optical depth, because it is a cumulative measure of light absorption / scattering in the atmosphere, there is not a value at a specific altitude. For water vapor, the Atmospheric Infrared Sounder (AIRS) provides data at specific pressure levels (hPA); these pressure levels can...

Re: Water vapour, ozone and aerosol data from MERRA-2 datasets
Mengmeng, Thank you for your query. Unfortunately, what you are seeking is not clear from the way your question is phrased. Do you want instructions on how to acquire these variables from our system for specific dates and locations? Or are you trying to compare these MERRA-2 variables to data variab...

Re: chlorophyll a in the Southern Ocean
The Giovanni system, https://giovanni.gsfc.nasa.gov/ , provides a simple data access method for MODIS-Aqua chlorophyll data, including the period of your interest. Are you just seeking the average chlorophyll for the Southern Ocean south of 55 S, or do you wish to see data for specific regions? Eith...

Re: Soil porosity
This answer was provided by a GLDAS subject matter expert at Goddard Space Flight Center. The Global Land Data Assimilation System (GLDAS) does not use different parameters for “deep” (2-150cm) soil porosity. It only uses the one porosity map for all layers, shown on the LDAS website with an image ...

Re: UUI subsetting "datasetID" - how to find?
Hello, Here is the answer provided by our GES DISC staff. There are two ways to get the DatasetId. 1. The search API (https://disc.gsfc.nasa.gov/information/howto?keywords=api&title=How%20to%20Use%20the%20Web%20Services%20API%20for%20Dataset%20Searching) does provide a way to get the DatasetID; ...

Re: MODIS SST product
"Binned" simply refers to the collection of valid observations. With 1 km (at nadir) resolution, a "bin" will be each 4x4 km region on the Level 3 data grid. Any valid 1 km pixel observation during the time period (8-day, monthly) will be added to the appropriate bin. At the end ...

Re: MODIS SST product
The previous post does a good job of covering the answers to both questions posed. The monthly SST data product (as for all the other monthly ocean color data products) is a product of binning and averaging -- all of the valid measurements for a specific location are "binned", and then at ...

Re: MODIS SST product
For your most recent question, are you referring to a daily data product or a data product for a longer period (8-day or monthly)?
SST can provide data with some cloud cover (high clouds/cirrus) where there will be no visible range data.
