The NASA Goddard Earth Sciences Data and Information Services Center (GES DISC), provides MERRA-2 data. We would be glad to see your method here on the Forum. Regarding general advice, we saw that you can use Cygwin. Cdo has a lot of functionality: https://code.mpimet.mpg.de/projects/cdo/ .
