question and some correction

by slava.suslin » Mon Apr 23, 2018 11:26 am America/New_York

Good day,

If I remember right, the half-width of visible main bands of SeaWiFS and MODIS are 20 nm and 8 nm, respectively. Is it right?
In which document I could find information on the half-width bands of VIIRS/Suomi-NPP instrument?

to some correction:
in https://oceancolor.gsfc.nasa.gov/data/viirs-snpp/  written " .. VIIRS has 22 spectral bands ranging from 412 nm to 12 nm. .. " Is bold text correct?

thank you,
slava

question and some correction

Slava,

Most SeaWiFS bands are indeed 20nm wide, however the NIR bands are 40nm wide.  MODIS "ocean" bands are nominaly 10nm, with a few wider (412nm is 15nm).
The visible bands on VIIRS are nominally 20nm wide, but as with SeaWiFS and MODIS, one size does not fit all.  Thankfully, we have a webpage dedicated to such things

https://oceancolor.gsfc.nasa.gov/docs/rsr/rsr_tables/

...and the 12nm should be 12um - it will be updated shortly

Regards,
Sean
