Depth - Chlorophyll concentration, OCI Algorithm

by isabella.t12 » Tue Aug 07, 2018 7:09 pm America/New_York

I want to know the depf or the z levels taken by the MODIS Aqua in Chlorophyll concentration, because I'd like to be sure that it is from the sea surface but how long is the sheet of water? THAKNS!

Depth - Chlorophyll concentration, OCI Algorithm

Hi Isabella,

It all depends on the clarity of the water.  In very clear,
low-chlorophyll waters, an orbiting sensor like MODIS
can sense photons reflected from 30 meters below the
surface.  In very turbid or very high-chlorophyll waters,
all of the received water-leaving radiance comes from
the top few centimeters.

Regards,
Norman
