L2gen processing for 10m Sentinel 2

by dogun » Wed Aug 22, 2018 3:01 am America/New_York

Hi All,

Please how do I output 10 resolution images from Sentinel 2 using the l2gen. I noticed the default output resolution is 20m, but I need 10m.

I used something like the command below but still getting 20m output? Or do I need to resample the output elsewhere?

Any hint will be highly appreciated.

l2gen ifile=/XXXXXXXX/ resolution=10 ofile=XXXXXX

L2gen processing for 10m Sentinel 2

You cannot.   Sentinel 2 MSI has 3 different resolutions, some bands at 10m, some at 20m and one at 60m.
When l2gen reads the MSI data, it upscales/downscales as necessary to put all bands at 20m.

Thanks Sean! Is there a way to resample in SeaDAS with little effect on the image quality. I used other tools for resampling but my image quality was affected.

This is not SeaDAS related, but you can find an extended
discussion of resampling issues and trade-offs here.

SeaDAS has many tools for mapping.  Image quality will suffer in regions where you are downsampling depending on the degree of downsampling and how different the pixel ground surface projection differs between the input and remapped file.  Upsampling is essentially the manufacturing of data, so in this case image quality will likely be more blurred when viewed zoomed in at the new higher resolution pixel level.

L2gen processing for 10m Sentinel 2

Hi Sean, I wonder if you manage to solve this issue? I'm running some test over Sentinel-2 imagery with the more recent version of SeaDAS (7.5.3) and still getting data at 20m.

Thanks in advanced!

l2gen will only output 20m resolution as Sean explained earlier in this thread.  There are not enough bands at 10m for l2gen to do any useful ocean calculations.  Sorry, but we do not have any plans to output 10m resolution for Sentinel-2 MSI.
