Failure to open Landsat 8 collection 1 data with SeaDAS 7.5.1

by seyoymyami » Thu Nov 29, 2018 1:31 pm America/New_York

SeaDAS 7.5.1 is not opening Landsat Collection 1 data to File Manager with  "Open Data File"  button using *_MTL.txt file both on Ubuntu 16.4 machine and Windows 10 desktop. I am getting a warning message:
"no appropriate reader found: /home/.........../LC08_L1TP_040037_20180621_20180703_01_T1_MLT.txt"
I can open individual bands of the data one at a time to File manager but not the entire data set. The same error returns if I attempt Landsat 7 and Sentinel 2 files.
Interestingly, l2gen successfully functions with MTL file for Landsat 8 data.
I installed Java version 1.8.0_191.

Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thank you

Seyoum

Failure to open Landsat 8 collection 1 data with SeaDAS 7.5.1

Seyoum,

Along with other differences, the Collection 1 files changed the filename convention.  That happens to be the one bit the is confusing the SeaDAS reader.
If you look in the MTL.txt file, you'll see a field LANDSAT_SCENE_ID.  This ID is in the "old" naming convention, so you could simply link the
new name to one matching this old name and fool the reader into opening it :)

e.g. ln -s  LC08_L1TP_045028_20160720_20170221_01_T1_MTL.txt  LC80450282016202LGN01_MTL.txt
(or if you don't like the symbolic link approach, simply rename it)

SeaDAS v7 doesn't support the Sentinel products in the reader.  For those, use SNAP (or wait for SeaDAS v8...)

Sean,

Thank you so much for responding to my question. The trick worked very well.

Thanks again,

Seyoum
