VIIRS processing paused - issues with geolocation identified

by OB.DAAC - SeanBailey » Thu Jan 16, 2020 6:17 pm America/New_York

We have identified an issue with the derivation of the Sun vectors in geolocation of VIIRS (both SNPP and NOAA-20).  This affects data collected since just before 00:00 UTC on 16 January 2020.
We have paused processing until we can identify the cause and implement corrective measures.

Regards,
Sean

VIIRS processing paused - issues with geolocation identified

The issue with the solar angle calculation has been identified and corrected.  VIIRS processing has been reenabled.  Users who process geolocation locally will need to update the processing look-up tables.  The updated LUTs have been posted to the oceandata.sci.gsfc.nasa.gov website and are available via the SeaDAS update_luts.py script.

Regards,
Sean
