MODIS Geolocation Issue - planetary ephemeris update required

by OB.DAAC - SeanBailey » Wed Dec 02, 2020 9:16 am America/New_York

SeaDAS users,
The version of the planetary ephemeris file (de200.eos) required for MODIS (Aqua and Terra) geolocation processing that is distributed with SeaDAS seems to have expired a month early  This binary file is generated by the ephtobin code provided by the SDP Toolkit from an ASCII version of the JPL provided planetary ephemeris data.
The latest version of the SDP Toolkit can generate a de200.eos file that will work through 24 Jan 2041.  However, SeaDAS distributes the previous version, so the de200.eos file it produces is apparently valid through 30 Nov 2020.Until this latest SDP Toolkit can be integrated with SeaDAS, we are providing a binary version of the de200.eos file that will allow MODIS geolocation processing to work on data collected beyond 30 Nov 2020.  Users who require this may download the file and place it under

$OCDATAROOT/modis/static/https://oceandata.sci.gsfc.nasa.gov/ocssw/de200.eos

This file should work for 64 bit Linux and MacOS systems. We apologize for any inconvenience this issue may have caused you.

Regards,
Sean
