Oceandata missing SEAICE_NSIDC_24h.hdf ancillaries for DoY 051 and 052?

by b.mccabe » Wed Mar 10, 2021 11:50 am America/New_York

There do not appear to be any NYYYYDDD00_SEAICE_NSIDC_24h.hdf ancillary files available from https://oceandata.sci.gsfc.nasa.gov (/Ancillary/Meteorological/2021/ for day of year 051 and 052). Any ideas why these ancillaries are missing, or when we might expect these ancillaries to be available?

Thanks,
Benjamin McCabe / DRL Computer Scientist

These files are currently missing from the source server. We'll submit an inquiry to the data center to see if they can recover and post them.

UPDATE:

Seems the gap is not recoverable. From NSIDC User Services:

"Thank you for contacting NSIDC. Yes, data from 20 and 21 February are missing due to a data loss by our source of passive microwave sensor data used to derive our concentration and extent estimates. These data unfortunately do not appear to be recoverable. However, the sensor is still healthy and another outage is not expected."
