CALIOP stands for Cloud-Aerosol LIdar with Orthogonal Polarization. It is the name of the lidar onboard the CALIPSO satellite, we like to pronounce it as the same as calliope, like the musical instrument (phonetically it is cal-eye-o-pee, not as cal-ee-op).
