OMI Aerosol optical depth data from Giovanni

by caroline120 » Tue May 11, 2021 7:49 am America/New_York

Dear EARTHDATA FORUM,

recently I downloaded OMI AOD daily data from GIOVANNI, but the results are not quite good. The result shows some days had so many decimal places eg.-1.267651E+30.
I am still trying to figure out the source of this issue, or is it still
a good data that I should use or discard them, but they are many.

Any assistance, please.
Thank you.

Thank you for your interest in our data and services.

When you download comma-separated value (CSV) files, you will find a line like this:

Fill Value (mean_OMAERUVd_003_FinalAerosolOpticalDepth500):, -1.267651e+30

that appears near the beginning of the file, before the data values for the variable. This indicates that all occurrences of -1.267651e+30 are to be treated as a fill value, and should be omitted from your data analysis. A fill value indicates that there were no data values available for that date in the geographic region that you specified, and the values have a large magnitude to make it easier to clearly distinguish them from values where data were available.
