confusion to the transmittances in calculating rhos using SeaDAS

by zhigang » Mon May 24, 2021 10:20 pm America/New_York

Hi,

In the old post of ocean color forum (https://oceancolor.gsfc.nasa.gov/forum/ ... l?tid=2229), I learn about that SeaDAS made adjustments for variours transmittances in calculating rhos (surface reflectance):
rhos = PI / F0 / mu0 * (Lt / tg_sol / tg_sen - Lr) / t_sol / t_sen / t_o2 / t_h2o.
As such, it is slightly different with the simple Rayleigh corrected reflectance (e.g., Rrc in Hu et al.).

In this equation, I was wondering what is the content of t? Does it include the aerosol transmittance? Or, it only includes the gas and water vapor contribution?

Regards,
Zhigang

Hi Zhigang,

Aerosol transmittance is not included in t_sen and t_sol when calculating rhos.
