Release of GEDI Finder Python and R Solutions
On April 16, 2021, the LP DAAC released GEDI Version 2 Data Products. One of the improvements with GEDI V2 is that each sub-orbit granule includes spatial coordinates in the file-level metadata, which allows users to spatially query GEDI V2 in NASA’s Earthdata Search and using NASA’s Common Metadata Repository (CMR) directly.
The LP DAAC recently published tutorials and code solutions in both Python and R that demonstrate how users can perform spatial queries for specific GEDI products via the CMR Search API.
The following repositories include both notebooks and scripts in Python and R that demonstrate how current GEDI Finder users can update their workflow for GEDI Version 2 data using NASA’s CMR Search API to perform spatial [bounding box] queries for GEDI Version 2 L1B-L2A-L2B data, and how to reformat the CMR response into a list of links that will allow users to download the intersecting GEDI Version 2 sub-orbit granules directly from the LP DAAC Data Pool.

The GEDI Finder web service will remain available for users to perform spatial queries for GEDI Version 1 data until those data are decommissioned, at which point the web service will also be decommissioned. GEDI Finder users interested in a GUI-based solution are encouraged to use NASA’s Earthdata Search (see the GEDI V2 Spatial Querying and Subsetting Quick Guide for step-by-step instructions).
