LAADS token fails to work

by fjli_sdsu » Sun Oct 03, 2021 10:59 pm America/New_York

Our group has been downloading daily MODIS active fire and geolocation NRT products from LAADS every day. The downloading has failed since 1st October 2021. We use 'wget' tool with newly generated token (from LAADS web under my profile) to download the data. It keeps throwning the following error:

------------------------------------------------------------
--2021-10-03 09:30:02-- https://ladsweb.modaps.eosdis.nasa.gov/ ... /2021/275/
Resolving ladsweb.modaps.eosdis.nasa.gov... 198.118.194.40, 2001:4d0:241a:40c0::40
Connecting to ladsweb.modaps.eosdis.nasa.gov|198.118.194.40|:443... connected.
ERROR: cannot verify ladsweb.modaps.eosdis.nasa.gov’s certificate, issued by “/C=US/O=Let's Encrypt/CN=R3”:
Issued certificate has expired.
To connect to ladsweb.modaps.eosdis.nasa.gov insecurely, use ‘--no-check-certificate’.
---------------------------------------------------------------

It reads like my token has expired. I tried to replace it with a newly generated token. The same error appears persistently. Are there any other users reporting the same issue recently? Is there a solution for it?

Thanks
Fangjun

We experience exactly the same problem, also since 1st October 2021. Updating the TOKEN does also not solve the certification problem at our side. Just downloading the README file offered for testing the TOKEN works well with the new TOKEN.
Accessing and downloading the data via HTTPS works without any problems, but is not the ideal way for automated processing.

Any support how to solve this issue would be highly appreciated!
Thanks,
Gabi

Hi All,

We have had users express the same issue trying to retrieve OBDAAC data. The solution actually appears to be that updates were needed on the users machine. Take a look at this:
Our system admins confirmed that if/when you receive messages like 'Let's Encrypt' or similar, first make sure that you have applied all available software updates and security patches to your own systems. A reboot may be required. Once your system is patched you should be able to connect.
