Announcement: Article on NO2 emissions from Amazon Basin fires

by GES DISC - jimacker » Wed Jan 15, 2020 12:48 pm America/New_York

The NASA GES DISC would like to announce a recent News article published on the Web site, entitled: "Nitrogen Dioxide Emissions Show the Intensity and Pattern of Wildfires in Central South America in August 2019"

In this article, difference maps created with Giovanni and NASA Panoply demonstrate how emissions of NO2 from wildfires in August 2019 were substantially higher than in August 2018, based on comparison to a 10-year mean for the region. NO2 data from the Ozone Measuring Instrument (OMI) was used for this comparison. An image created with Giovanni of average NO2 concentrations over the Amazon Basin in August 2019 is shown below.

For comparison, here is the same plot, except for August 2018.
