VIIRS - Day Night Band - DOWNLOAD

by sarabarozzi » Mon May 18, 2020 3:34 am America/New_York

Hi, I am interested in downloading VIIRS DNB data. I have read the documentation for the automatic download of the data but I was not able to find an API to download them by period, by product and by area. There is a method to do that?
I can't find any documentation.

Thank you for contacting us with an interest in CERES NPP data.
There are several options to choose from in the way in which to subset the data.
You can choose specific parts of the data, search by temporal, and spatial criteria from:
The CERES Subset Tool: https://subset.larc.nasa.gov/ceres/index.php
You should receive a notification for downloading the data.
Earthdata Search Tool: https://search.earthdata.nasa.gov/searc ... r%20(ASDC)
You should receive a notification for downloading the data.
The ASDC website: https://asdc.larc.nasa.gov/search
**at the ASDC website select "DATA", then type in CERES VIIRS in the search box** You can use the Direct Data Download option for downloading the data directly to your computer. Also, there are several scripts available for downloading the data located in the "Scripts for Downloading Data" section.

To Read the data: There is the HDFView software available for reading the data.
HDFView, which is a free, easy-to-use program from the
non-profit HDF Group:
http://www.hdfgroup.org/hdf-java-html/hdfview/
HDFView allows you to export data as a text (ASCII) file.
From the HDFGroup website:
"HDFView is a visual tool for browsing and editing HDF4 and HDF5 files.
Using HDFView, you can

* view a file hierarchy in a tree structure
* create new file, add or delete groups and datasets
* view and modify the content of a dataset
* add, delete and modify attributes
* replace I/O and GUI components such as table view, image view and metadata view"
The HDF Group website has other tools for and examples of working
with hdf data files.
The HDF group has examples of working with CALIPSO, CERES, MISR, MOPITT, and TES data
using several different languages such as: MATLAB, NCL, Python and IDL.
You can see these examples at their "zoo" area:
http://hdfeos.org/zoo/index_openLaRC_Examples.php

Also, for assistance contact helpdesk email support services:

Thank you for your answer. To be more specific I would like to download the files called NPP_VDNES_L1. These files can be downloaded with a script provided from NASA here https://ladsweb.modaps.eosdis.nasa.gov/ ... P_VDNES_L1 but there are no reference on the location.
I would like to know if some API like the one that the LAADS DAAC portal uses are available to retrieve the name of the files I am interested in.

Thanks
