Wildfires, Climate Change, Green house emissions

by aborb003 » Mon Jan 25, 2021 1:53 am America/New_York

Hi,
I am an undergrad trying to prove that there is a direct relationship between global warming, wildfires, and greenhouse emissions in California using data from 2010-2020.
I am a complete newbie here and I am wondering if anyone knows is any research already done, or where I can find this particular data set?
Any type of guidance and tips would be greatly appreciated.

Greetings,

Thank you for posting your inquiry on the Earthdata Forum in regards to global warming, wildfires and greenhouse emissions.

NASA has a website solely dedicated to proving just this (or rather indicating the direct causes and effects formulated from years of scientific research using NASA's data) on a global scale https://climate.nasa.gov/. This may not address your specific questions regarding the spatial and temporal extent of your study area, but can serve as a starting point and provide resources to learn more information on global warming, climate change and greenhouse gas emissions.

You can also begin your data search using Worldview https://worldview.earthdata.nasa.gov and browsing datasets by thematic areas (e.g. fires, etc.), or using Earthdata Search https://search.earthdata.nasa.gov/search, searching by keywords (e.g. wildfires, greenhouse gases, etc.), and narrowing down the search using specific filtering options (2010-2020, California).

For additional information, please also visit the Earthdata
Data Toolkits https://earthdata.nasa.gov/learn/toolkits/wildfires and
Data Pathfinders https://earthdata.nasa.gov/learn/pathfi ... pathfinder generated for wildfires.

Best Regards

Please reply if you would like additional guidance on where to find specific datasets and data variables.

Another article that tackled your question:
https://agupubs.onlinelibrary.wiley.com ... 19EF001210

There are MODIS products that provide detection of fire and land use change.

Reanalysis data like the Merra 2 would provide information on changes in temperature and humidity over California.
