Data Subscription Service Available for

by genecarlfeldman » Wed Feb 18, 2004 2:25 pm America/New_York

good afternoon,

following up on my previous announcement, i wanted to let everyone know that we have just added a new function to the support and data services that we provide.  as of today, it is now possible to enter a subscription for modis/aqua data for any region of the world and have that data staged on our ftp site for you to download, on an ongoing basis, generally within a few hours of acquisition by the satellite.  this service is in addition to the current service that allows you to:

1) download individual files directly from the web
2) place an order from the same web interface for data covering any time period and region
3) download the most recent 10 days of all aqua data from a rolling ftp archive
4) browse and download the entire level-3 archive at either 4 or 9 kilometer resolution at multiple time resolutions
5) request cruise support

all of these features are available via the new ocean color web site at:

http://oceancolor.gsfc.nasa.gov/

features to look for in the very near future include:

1) a new release of seadas next week that supports the full processing of modis/aqua processing
2) electronic distribution of the entire seawifs data set from the ocean color web as an augmentation to the current services provided by the goddard daac
3) an improved high resolution seawifs data product (MLAC = Merged Local Area Coverage) derived from the 1 kilometer seawifs hrpt and recorded lac data that reduces geographic overlap from multiple receiving stations and maximizes data quality
4) an 'extract on demand' option in the data ordering function that allows a user to request a specific geographic region and/or parameter set to be extracted from the level 1 (seawifs) and level 2 (seawifs and modis/aqua) files.

work also continues on improvements to the quality and stability of the modis/aqua data products and we look forward to a lively and productive interaction with the ocean color community as we start posting some of our findings and questions and are planning on a number of working sessions at the upcoming ocean color team meeting that will be held in washington d.c. 14-16 april 2004 to help resolve some of the outstanding issues.

regards for now,
gene
