recent data access issues

by genecarlfeldman » Wed Oct 20, 2004 12:22 pm America/New_York

To users of the Ocean Color web and ftp sites:

In response to the increasing network security issues world-wide,
NASA and the Goddard Space Flight Center is in the process
of re-evaluating and revising its network access policies.
This activity has resulted in changes to network access controls
at the Center level, beyond our control. Those changes appear
to be directly impacting this project's ability to make our
data products available to the science community in a timely
and reliable manner. A number of sites have had difficulties
in accessing our ftp and web servers to retrieve data. We
apologize for the inconvenience. The cause of the problem is
in an area that is not under our control. We are working with
Center to find a solution to the problem that addresses the
Center's security concerns and provides reliable access to the
data. If you find that you have difficulty connecting to our systems,
particularly when trying to retrieve data via ftp, please make a note
of the problem you encounter and pass it along to us so that we can
provide it to the Center security group to document these instances
and hopefully, allow them to come up with a set of access procedures
that will allow this legitimate use of the network while maintaining the
level of security that they require.
Thank you for your patience while we work through this problem.
