new evaluation products available

by genecarlfeldman » Mon Jul 10, 2006 3:11 pm America/New_York

Greetings,
We are happy to announce the release of a new set of ocean color and sea surface temperature products that at this time, are being classified as "evaluation products" since evaluations are ongoing and likely updates are anticipated. In addition, we have created a new topic on the OceanColor Web discussion forum to focus specifically on these products and have placed a preliminary set of documents there that will help explain the products and their current state of maturity. The new products and data sets include:

1- Coastal Zone Color Scanner (CZCS): complete mission reprocessing. 56,105 scenes processed from November 1978 through June 1986. Available at Level-1, Level-2 and Level-3

2- Ocean Color Temperature Scanner (OCTS): complete mission reprocessing . 7,641 scenes processed from November 1996 through June 1997. Available at Level-1, Level-2 and Level-3

3- MODIS/Terra Sea Surface Temperature: test processing and operational forward stream. January 2005 through present and ongoing. Available at Level-1, Level-2 and Level-3. It is our intention to follow the same process that we used with the MODIS/AQUA sst and ocean color products which is to eventually acquire the complete mission archive and produce a consistent product set. Processing details can be found online at: http://oceancolor.gsfc.nasa.gov/DOCS/modis_sst/

4- MODIS/Aqua Calcite and Fluorescence Line Height (FLH). Currently available from March 2005 through present and ongoing. Once the evaluation is completed, it is anticipated that a complete mission reprocessing will be performed. Available at Level-3.

The direct location of the new evaluation product discussion area on the OceanColor Forum which has brief descriptions of the new products is:

All the web browsers and FTP page have been updated to provide access to the new products and SeaDAS fully supports these missions and products as well.

We will be monitoring the forum and look forward to comments and feedback.

Best regards,
All the folks at the Ocean Biology Processing Group.
