ORNL DAAC Request for Revising an Existing GCMD Instrument: DESIS

by ORNL - yaxingwei » Tue Feb 21, 2023 10:15 am America/New_York

Hi,

To more accurately curate the metadata for data collections coming out of the SBG-SISTER project, we'd like to request for a revision to an existing GCMD instrument keyword.

Existing GCMD instrument to be revised:
UUID: 7c6ddfcd-00e3-4194-be91-9a9648f9d30b
Short name: DESIS
Long name: DLR Earth Sensing Imaging Spectrometer

Please help to revise the "Description" and "Reference" for the DESIS instrument as detailed below:

Definition: The DLR Earth Sensing Imaging Spectrometer (DESIS) is an Earth observation instrument that was launched to the International Space Station (ISS) in 2018 and is integrated into the Multi-User System for Earth Sensing (MUSES) platform. DESIS is a pushbroom imaging hyperspectral sensor system with 235 hyperspectral narrowbands (HNB) each with 2.55 nm bandwidth that record image data from the visible and near-infrared (VNIR) range of the spectrum (400 to 1000 nm). It has a surface spatial resolution of about 30 meters and a swath width of about 30 km. DESIS is also equipped with a steering mirror for Bidirectional Reflectance Distribution Function (BRDF) measurements. This data reveals changes in the ecosystems on Earth's surface. Scientists can use the information acquired in this way to assess the condition of forests or farmlands and forecast their yield. DESIS was developed and built by the German Aerospace Center (Deutsches Zentrum für Luft- und Raumfahrt; DLR) and is operated commercially by Teledyne Brown Engineering (TBE).
