PODAAC - SWOT question

by dvandemark » Wed Jun 28, 2023 12:43 pm America/New_York

Hello,

We have a couple science teams interested in looking at the limited amount of cal/val phase L1B ocean data from SWOT when it becomes available.
Do you have any advice on how to do that within the PODAAC framework of the data/code/cloud - or is all geared for L2 and higher level data?

thanks
Doug Vandemark

Hi Doug,

Are you a member of SWOT Cal Val team?

No. Just regular science team.

We know we won't have access to the actual L1B until the public release later this year. Just wondering if PODAAC/AVISO will have and supply the tools to read and work with these files for the few ocean teams that are interested - or is it the same toolset as for the river data users?

Gotcha, thanks. We don't have any data access tools specific to one domain. But we're working on some future capabilities to provide spatial subset/aggregation for certain L2 hydro data products from SWOT.

To access SWOT oceanography data, from cal/val campaigns or the standard products, we recommend using the AWS tools for in-cloud access (https://aws.amazon.com/cli/) and the PODAAC-maintained data downloader tool for typical downloads (available here from github: https://github.com/podaac/data-subscriber).
