Time tags in mixed Rinex 3 navigation files

by derekknowles » Mon Jul 31, 2023 1:22 pm America/New_York

I have a question regarding the time tags in Rinex 3.04 navigation files containing mixed satellite systems.

Are all time tags (e.g., time of ephemeris, time of clock) in a mixed navigation file given in same time of reference (e.g. GPS Time) or are the time tags for each satellite system using their own respective time frame (e.g. GPS time for GPS navigation entries, but BDT (BeiDou Time) for BeiDou entries)?

As a concrete question, would the following GPS entry be the exact same time as the following BeiDou entry since they have the same timestamp? Or are those two entries separated by 14 seconds accounting for the different in how GPS time and BDT account for leap seconds?

This information should be available in the RINEX Version 3.04 Format Document, which is available at this link: https://files.igs.org/pub/data/format/rinex304.pdf?_gl=1*1xoj37e*_ga*MTcxMzgzNzI2LjE2NDIxNzgwODM.*_ga_Z5RH7R682C*MTY5MjExOTI2Ni4zMzMuMS4xNjkyMTE5Mjc0LjUyLjAuMA..

The time tags of the navigation messages (e.g., time of ephemeris, time of clock) are given in the respective satellite time systems!
But for GLONASS:The time tags in the GLONASS navigation files are given in UTC (i.e. not Moscow time or GPS time).
Hope this helps!
