SeaDAS 6.2 RC1 Released

by OB.DAAC - SeanBailey » Mon Nov 29, 2010 4:43 pm America/New_York

==========================================================================
SeaDAS 6.2 Release Candidate - Release Notes (11/29/2010)
http://oceancolor.gsfc.nasa.gov/seadas/
==========================================================================

A release candidate for SeaDAS version 6.2 is now available:

ftp://samoa.gsfc.nasa.gov/seadas/seadas_6.2_RC1/

Unfortunately, this does not include the virtual appliance version for Windows users

SeaDAS 6.2 RC1 contains all of the final processing programs (and source code)
used for the OBPG's Ocean Color Reprocessing 2010:

http://oceancolor.gsfc.nasa.gov/WIKI/OC ... (2e)0.html

This release includes support for 64 bit Linux.

Supported platforms for this release are:

- Linux
- Linux x86_64
- Intel Macintosh OS X 10.5/10.6
- PowerPC Macintosh OS X 10.5

Modified scripts:
- modis_L0_to_L1A_GEO.csh -> modis_L1A.csh (GEO creation removed)
- modis_L1A_to_GEO.csh -> modis_GEO.csh
- modis_L1A_to_L1B.csh -> modis_L1B.csh
- several CSHELL (non-processing) scripts converted to BASH

Minor bug fixes:
- fix to the MODIS L1B load routine to correct loading wrong band when
a single band was selected
- fix to the par file option in the L2 GUI
- rename the L2 flag entries to match changes implemented with R2009/2010
- force OCTS to be descending node to resolve a navigation issue for GAC
files that span the south pole
- fix to the coastline overlay and remapping of high latitude SeaWiFS data
- updated GIOP options

In addition, the GNU W.get code is no longer distributed as a binary. SeaDAS
will use a system installed w.get, or prompt the user to install w.get from
source. W.get is only necessary if the provided data processing scripts are
used.

The structure of the SeaDAS directories have undergone a reorganization, and
every effort has been made to ensure that all code has been updated to
reflect the new organization. Since this is a major alteration from
previous SeaDAS releases, we might have missed something. If you discover
what appears to be a path issue, please don't hesitate to let us know!

We hope to have a finalized release ready to coincide with the completion of
the L0->L2 reprocessing for MODIS Terra, currently estimated to be finished
on December 16th, 2010.

The base distribution no longer includes the processing binaries. These are
now in a separate tarball (seadas_processing_xxx.tar.gz, where xxx is linux,
linux_64, macosx_intel or macosx_ppc). The previously named
seadas_processing.tar.gz (which contained the complete data/common tree) has
been renamed to seadas_processing_common.tar.gz. Both the architecture
dependent and common processing tarfiles are required for data processing -
in addition to the mission specific data trees (e.g. seadas_seawifs.tar.gz)

Again, as this is a release candidate, if you choose to install this version and
come across any issues, please let us know so we can fix them for the final
release.

Enjoy,

The SeaDAS Development Group
