Global MERIS L1B data available

by OB.DAAC - SeanBailey » Fri May 04, 2012 3:02 pm America/New_York

Recently, NASA and the European Space Agency entered into a data sharing
agreement whereby NASA provided ESA with the full L1A data sets from the
MODIS-Aqua and SeaWiFS instruments in exchange for the full MERIS L1B data,
both the global reduced resolution (RR) and full resolution (FRS) data sets.

Currently, the full MERIS L1B RR data set is available from the Ocean Biology
Processing Group. The FRS data will be available in the near future.

Under this agreement, the MERIS collection is available publicly at no cost to
registered users who have agreed to the terms and conditions set by NASA and
the European Space Agency (ESA) to access MERIS data.

In order to download the data, you will need to:

1) have a registered user account within the EOSDIS system

2) have filled out additional questions pertaining to use of MERIS data

3) have agreed with ESA's terms and conditions.

To create a new EOSDIS account OR to add authorization for MERIS data to a
pre-existing EOSDIS account, please visit the Ocean Biology Processing Group
(OBPG) User Support page.

Since February 2009, the OBPG has been providing MERIS FRS data over US
waters. The data will now fall under the same aforementioned requirements.
Currently, only these FRS data are available for browsing and downloading via
the OceanColor L1/L2 Browser.

In the near future, the global RR data will also be made available via this
mechanism. Until then, the data are always available via:

http://oceandata.sci.gsfc.nasa.gov (/MERIS)

as well as from the EOSDIS Reverb interface

If you have any questions, please post to the under the Satellite Data Access board
