Availability of SWOT Level 2 Water Mask Raster Image Data Product, Version 2.0

by raihanusm » Thu May 16, 2024 5:28 pm America/New_York

I am trying to use SWOT data for my research focusing on flood in the northeastern region of Bangladesh. The geographic location
of the region ranges between 23°38' to 25°12' North Latitude and 90°27' to 92°30' East Longitude.

While I found the SWOT Level 2 Water Mask Pixel Cloud Data Product, Version 2.0 for 2023, on the NASA Earthdata website, I could not find any SWOT Level 2 Water Mask Raster Image Data Product, Version 2.0 for 2023. I could only find the Raster Image Data Products for 2024. Why is the data missing? Is there any way to download those data from NASA Earthdata?

I also tried to manually calculate the water surface elevation from the Pixel Cloud Data Product, but I am a bit confused as there are two Geocentric load tide heights (load_tide_fes and load_tide_got) in the NetCDF file. Which one is suggested for use while calculating the water surface elevation from SWOT Level 2 Water Mask Pixel Cloud Data Product, Version 2.0?

Hello,

Regarding the raster product, are you able to access the files from this collection?

https://podaac.jpl.nasa.gov/dataset/SWOT_L2_HR_Raster_2.0
https://search.earthdata.nasa.gov/search/granules?p=C2799438271-POCLOUD

Sorting by 'oldest' shows me files as early as 2023-04

As for the pixel cloud SWOT_L1B_HR_SLC_2.0, I do not see the load tide heights (load_tide_fes and load_tide_got) anywhere. They are present in other data products, though.

while the date is from 2023-04, it's located in the USA. I am looking for images for a part of Bangladesh that is between 23°38' to 25°12' North Latitude and 90°27' to 92°30' East Longitude. When I filter by polygon to select the location it has no images from 2023. Did the radar not focus outside of the USA before 2024?

Hello,

Please be assured that there was indeed global coverage in the earlier cycles of SWOT. Apologies for having misunderstood your question before.

I am seeing that the science phase 2023 granules are being released as they come from reprocessing, and not necessarily all in order. Thus, even though you see granules all the way back to 2023/04, it does not mean everything is complete from that time. Reprocessing is continuing to add granules to the collection, though I'm unable to tell you when they will cover your region of interest. Please look forward to the data in the near future!

Thank you for reaching out,
Celia
