Recent VIIRS geolocation issue

by OB.DAAC - SeanBailey » Wed Jul 13, 2016 11:34 am America/New_York

We were recently alerted to an issue with the VIIRS geolocation as generated at the OBPG and distributed by the OB.DAAC.The problem has been identified, corrected and the affected data have been reprocessed. The cause was  an ancillary file (the "polar wander" file) required by the geolocation processing that was not being updated.  The effect was to introduce an error in geolocation up to several kilometers.  The error was minimal in the middle of the scan, but increased with scan angle and there was a small along track error as well.  The affected files were generated between 19 June 2016 and 13 July 2016.  If you downloaded any of these data you may wishto reacquire the files. We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.

Regards,
Sean
