FIRMS - Scanning coverage

by moodest » Sat Apr 05, 2025 6:54 pm America/New_York

I need to preface this question by saying I am not an space sciences expert, student, or professional. I am a systems engineering graduate student trying to understand the capabilities of FIRMS.

Specifically, I am trying to understand how often specific/custom coordinates are "seen" by the various satellites that provide data to FIRMS.

For example, when is Fresno, CA updated? With how big the swath widths are, pass over times, numerous satellites, is the frequency of updates actually dependent on data processing latency? Do the updates occur periodically or are there inconsistencies/gaps with coverage?

Thanks!

Hi moodest, Please see the FIRMS FAQ What time does the satellite pass over my area? (https://www.earthdata.nasa.gov/data/tools/firms/faq#heading-accordion-124369-8).
