How to calculate percentage of area burnt?

by brell.bernd » Mon Sep 29, 2025 4:59 am America/New_York

During recent fires: starting 22 September 2025 and lasting until 29 September2025: large areas of the Etosha National Park: Namibia (Sout-Western Africa): burnt down. My question is how do I calculate the area burnt in percentage?!

Hello,
Are you working with a specific data set, such as the MODIS/VIIRS 64A1 or the Thermal Anomalies.
Thanks,
Brett

Hi, @brell.bernd ,

The easiest way off the top of my head would be download the dataset. Upload it into a GIS software and performance analysis based on the boundaries of the park. If you have more questions the FIRMS team would gladly assist.

Thank,
