Release of New Granules from GEDI L4A Aboveground Biomass and L4C Waveform Structural Complexity Index Data

The Oak Ridge National Laboratory Distributed Active Archive Center (ORNL DAAC) is pleased to announce the release of new granules for two footprint-level the Global Ecosystem Dynamics Investigation (GEDI) Level 4 datasets:
- GEDI Level 4A Footprint-Level Aboveground Biomass Density, https://doi.org/10.3334/ORNLDAAC/2056
- GEDI Level 4C Waveform Structural Complexity Index (WSCI), https://doi.org/10.3334/ORNLDAAC/2338
Please note that there were no data acquisitions while the GEDI instrument was in storage on the International Space Station (ISS) from March 2023 to April 2024. This release covers the post-storage granules up to the mission week 327 (March 19, 2025).
The GEDI L4A dataset provides predictions of aboveground biomass density (AGBD) in megagrams per hectare (Mg/ha) along with estimates of uncertainty for each geolocated laser footprint. The GEDI L4C dataset provides estimates of 3D canopy complexity metrics.
You can access the data through NASA Earthdata Search and a variety of NASA Earthdata tools and services, including Earthdata Cloud, OPeNDAP, and Harmony. Tutorials on accessing GEDI Level 4 datasets are available at: https://ornldaac.github.io/gedi_tutorials.
