The availability of GEDI granules in the L2A/L1B has suddenly decreased again.

Hi Earthdata/LP DAAC team,

I’m writing to ask about a sudden change I’m observing in CMR results for GEDI collections over the past few days.

In my workflow, I routinely query granules via CMR (no spatial or temporal filters beyond the dataset version) and compare the total granule counts across products to ensure completeness before downloading. Recently, I noticed a large drop in granule availability for GEDI L1B and L2A, while GEDI L2B appears unchanged(https://search.earthdata.nasa.gov/search/granules?p=C2142749196-LPCLOUD&pg[0][v]=f&pg[0][gsk]=-start_date&q=C2142749196-LPCLOUD):

* GEDI L1B (GEDI01_B, v002): ~16,312 granules returned
* GEDI L2A (GEDI02_A, v002): ~16,299 granules returned
* GEDI L2B (GEDI02_B, v002): ~89,630 granules returned

Many granules that were previously discoverable in CMR (and downloadable) no longer appear in CMR search results for L1B and L2A, even though L2B still returns ~89k granules.Furthermore, the timeframes for LB and 2A are intermittent, spanning from 2019 to 2025.

Could you please confirm whether there is any ongoing maintenance, temporary removal, migration, or reindexing affecting GEDI L1B/L2A collections in CMR (or Earthdata Cloud)? If so, is there an estimated timeframe for restoration, or any recommended workaround?

Thanks a lot for any clarification.

Best regards,
Zhiyong

I've also noticed this in recent days. Any idea of the issue and timeline for a resolution?

Hi, Is there any update on this?
The data outage link shows that it is still active, but I decided to confirm today by querying the CMR API and found that it does appear to be returning the number of granules I expect again (I tested with L2A over South America). Is the issue resolved?
This has been blocking us since the beginning of January so it would be really helpful to get an update.

Thank you!

Hi @ameliah The last little subset of data arrived just this morning. We've been working on verifying that everything is in now as expected. Everything is looking good on our end, so we are coordinating with the web team to mark the issue alert as resolved. Thanks -- Danielle
