MCI OLCI processing parameters

by jvaldezch » Mon Sep 08, 2025 7:41 pm America/New_York

Hi community,

I'm processing some Sentinel-3 OLCI images to obtain data to produce an MCI product to detect sargassum in the Caribbean but I'm encontring sometimes that some swaths have too much saturation or brightness. I have been trying to use different parameters but image still have some saturation in the Gulf of Mexico like in the next image.

Default parameters:
l2gen l2prod=Rrs_681,Rrs_709,Rrs_754 ifile=S3B_OL_1_EFR____20250728T152057_20250728T152357_20250729T163645_0179_109_182_2520_ESA_O_NT_004.SEN3/xfdumanifest.xml ofile=DEFAULT_PROCESSING.nc resolution=300 cloud_thresh=0.052
olci_default.png
After reading some of the parameters that l2gen accepts I come up with this parameters:

l2gen l2prod=Rrs_681,Rrs_709,Rrs_754 ifile=S3B_OL_1_EFR____20250728T152057_20250728T152357_20250729T163645_0179_109_182_2520_ESA_O_NT_004.SEN3/xfdumanifest.xml ofile=PARAMS_PROCESSING.nc resolution=300 cloud_thresh=0.052 gas_opt=8 proc_ocean=2 glint_opt=2 oxaband_opt=1 brdf_opt=1 atrem_opt=1 atrem_full=1 maskland=on maskbath=on maskglint=on

Now the saturation goes but I'm losing some value data. Any help would be appreciated.

Hello,
Could you please provide more details about how you processed the OLCI imagery? Additional details would help us better understand and identify the issues you are encountering.
Based on what you provided, I suggest you check your output Rrs values first to make sure they are within a reasonable range and the saturation was not from the MCI algorithm itself.
Thanks,
Guoqing
