MODIS Download stops at 94%

by hliking » Tue Mar 10, 2026 2:06 pm America/New_York

I've been trying to download a few datasets from Aqua MODIS Level-3 Global Mapped Chlorophyll (CHL) Data, version 2022.0 using the Earthdata Downloads app but the download keeps getting stuck at 94% downloaded. Sometimes it says it's still downloading but doesn't progress, other times it gets interrupted and when I tell it to continue or restart individual files, they just get interrupted again. Can anyone give any advice as to what's wrong or how I can fix it?

If the download consistently stops at 94%, is it possible you are running out of space on the device you are writing to?

Hi Tommy,

I don't believe so, the device I was writing to had over 10GB of space remaining when the download reached 94% completion.

Try adding --timeout=300 to your wget call

I think I've found another source for the data (or similar data) but will try this fix another time (I'm away from the original device I was using) and let you know how it goes

Thanks,

Nico
