OPERA DISP-1

by rcrajapp » Fri Mar 13, 2026 5:15 pm America/New_York

Do the DISP-S1 files need further correction before finding the correlation between hydrological parameters. If I extracted time series data from them and it was observed that not many pixels are masked out as in the portal.

Hello @rcrajapp,
Keep in mind that the DISP-S1 data is in the line of sight of the SAR sensor, which is a side-looking instrument. As such, there are both horizontal and vertical components to displacement values. You may need to take this into consideration when correlating the data to hydrologic parameters.

More information on the data provided in DISP-S1 time series is available in the DISP-S1 Time Series StoryMap Tutorial.

Thank you for your reply. I was doing the decomposition of displacement to trend and seasonal components. Should i apply recommended mask and only consider valid pixels for the analysis. I want to check the correlation of LOS displacement with hydrological parameters.

@rcrajapp refer to the Recommended Mask information to learn more about this layer. You might also find the Quality Metrics information useful when considering your particular use case.

Thank you for your previous reply.
I was working with the netcdf file stack I downloaded based on the Jupiter files provided. Individual displacement files have a correction folder with it containing ionospheric delay, solid earth tide etc. When downloading as stacked netcdf file of tiff files, this correction files are missing. Are the correction applied or we have to apply it.
Another doubt is that the shortwave displacement is different from displacement, so when decomposing to vertical and horizontal component can shortwave displacement time series from portal be used.

The corrections applied to the OPERA DISP-S1 products are described in the 2.14 Corrections section of the "Algorithm Theoretical Basis Document for OPERA Surface Displacement from Sentinel-1 data" document.
