OCSSW V2026.0 -- missing instrument_defaults.par for VIIRS

by oo_processing » Mon Mar 23, 2026 10:53 am America/New_York

Dear Support,

I'm testing an production environment with V2026.0. But I got errors because of missing
V2026.0/share/viirs/npp/instrument_defaults.par
V2026.0/share/viirs/j1/instrument_defaults.par

I got them from a previous V tag, then the process was successful.
I want to report this in case you are not aware of yet.

Best,
-Yuyuan

I just tested this. The l2gen executable delivered in V2026.0 does not need the instrument_defaults.par file. Could you be running an older version of l2gen with the V2026.0 version of the share data? This is the version of l2gen in V2026.0

l2gen --version
msl12 10.0.0-V2026.0 (Mar 11 2026 20:00:27)

I see. The error was caused by the calibrate_viirs command. Because I had to compile most V2026.0 binaries from source code for the old Linux 3.10, calibrate_viirs was not one of them. The old-version calibrate_viirs needs the instrument_defaults.par file. That explains the error.
But I still don't know if the V2026.0 calibrate_viirs needs instrument_defaults.par. I will find a new computer to test.
[Edited] The answer is -- the V2026.0 calibrate_viirs doesn't need instrument_defaults.par. Case closed.

Thanks,
-Yuyuan
